Commentary: Commando

February 4th, 2008 by Michael Ferraro

It’s been a while since we’ve posted a commentary here but we’re back and in full effect. This week, James Gregory and Michael Ferraro tackle Mark L. Lester’s infamous 1980s classic, Commando. The film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a caring father who rescues his daughter from a man who wears a tank top and chain mail. Did I mention his daughter was played by Alyssa Milano? 80s action doesn’t get any better than this.

I can’t wait to listen to this.

You guys need to do a Running Man commentary.

Wow Steve, we’ve actually talked about that here at the B5 camp… It may be a reality soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

Excellent! I reminded myself to watch it today. It is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a while.

What about a Back to the Future movie comentary? That shit would be AWESOME!

If I’m not mistaken this, along with Raw Deal, was one of the last two films Schwarzenneger had contractually agreed to be in before hitting it big with Terminator. (Conan made him a bankable actor, but Terminator was what made him into a household name) and the result was that you now had a project meant to be a lower budget action flick like what Van Damme or Segal were later known for suddenly having money thrown at it and getting emergency last minute rewrites to make it into a vehicule for Ahnuld. And it’s that weird schizoid quality that makes it so great.
