They’re remaking The Gate?

December 6th, 2007 by Michael Ferraro

JoBlo reports that FX man Randall William Cook (who worked on Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Lord of the Rings trilogy) has just been tapped to remake the infamous 80s horror vehicle, The Gate. The original is probably most notable for the starring role from a young Stephen Dorff. But do enough people even remember this movie?

The plot involves a portal to Hell opening up in this kid’s backyard. It unleashes a mix of odd creatures who storm his house, including one giant demon he fights with a model rocket. This movie used to play on late-night cable all the time in the 80s but then vanished into obscurity. It isn’t even out on DVD yet. A forgettable straight-to-video sequel was made in the early 90s, Gate II, but Dorff was smart enough to opt out of that monstrosity.

Mike, I actually own this on DVD. Found it in the $5 bin a few years ago at Wal-Mart. It definitely hasn’t held up well so I welcome the remake. The source material could allow them to do some really cool stuff.
