There is a really weird phenomenon going here. Every time we here at B5 do a commentary for a film with a potential sequel coming, the plot details pour out days after we record them. For instance, if you listened to our Crank commentary, which was recorded in early July of 2007, you notice that we tried to figure out just how the filmmakers would bring us another Chev Chelios adventure. Then, just weeks later, the high-voltage details were out.
It happened again too. We did commentary for horrendous T3, talked about what may come in a future adventure, and found out a week or so later that we were way off.
So this new Terminator adventure has a title: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. What kind of title is that? I ran out of breath just typing it. The film will chronicle the adventures of John Connor doing what we’ve been hearing about for years; becoming the leader of the human resistance in a future run by evil robots. Obviously Arnold won’t be back this go-round.
Who will play John Connor though and how will they play him? Eddie Furlong (T2) was an absolute badass (albeit with a screechy voice) who stole money from ATM machines and taped up security guards. Nick Stahl (T3) played Connor the complete opposite - a whiny bastard who can barely take care of himself.
Christian Bale is apparently in current negotiations to take over. It’s sort of odd to think Bale is seriously considering this. The guy usually takes roles that are unique in their own right (outside of the new Batman franchise). Based on some of his performances (like American Psycho and The Mechanic), we can only hope he helps to resurrect this destroyed franchise (thanks to Rise of the Machines).
