Commentary: Crank

November 14th, 2007 by Michael Ferraro

Now that details have emerged as to what the next Crank film will actually be about, it should be said that this commentary was recorded back in July of 2007. It’s funny, because we actually talk about what we thought the next one would consist of… man, we were WAY off…

Regardless, Crank was one of those films that should have easily dismissed based on it’s premise alone. A man injected with some “Chinese Shit” is given an hour to live but can prolong his death if he keeps his adrenalin up. If that’s not a plot description to cause laughter amongst senile senior citizens, I am not too sure what will.

The film was way stronger than its premise however, and after talking about this film more than I ever anticipated, James Gregory and I decided to sit down and do commentary for it. This is actually the first commentary we ever recorded. So sit back, drive your car through a mall, and enjoy the verbal rapeage. If you watch it with the film, hit the play button on your DVD player to start the film at the same time you start this commentary.

I totally agree with what you guys said about Crank. It is a truly awesome film that pushes the envellope of action movies up a notch, which I don’t think has been done since the first Die Hard. And I think the quality you were searching for in the commentary was that Crank has fun with the action genre without making fun of the action genre. Great commentary for a great film.

FYI: the car Chelios drives (also the car from Last Boy Scout) is a 1971-1973 Buick Riviera.
